DIRECTIONS
Travel 18 klms west on the Gwydir Hwy towards Inverell (50klms east of Inverell). Turn right onto Waterloo Road (church on the corner). This is well signposted. Travel nearly 1 klm. Turn right into the gateway (first gateway after the church) The gateway is just BEFORE you cross the wooden bridge over the Wellingrove Creek. If you travel past the yellow arrows, you have gone too far. Turn into the gateway on the right. Look out for a small stencilled sign on the roadside
The shearing shed is the first building along the paddock road.

Follow the road driving to the left of the shearing shed. The Shearers Lodge is ahead.

The doors will be unlocked so please let yourselves in.
My homestead number is 6733 6702 or 0439 79123.
LODGE ROOM
HEATING/COOLING
The control panel for the fully ducted heating and cooling are above the microwave oven in the kitchen. The green light appears on the control panel when the system is on. Do not alter any of the settings, as it is a very complex timing arrangement. The 7 switches, marked 1 – 7 for 7 rooms are like a light switch. If you wish to have heating in your room, your room number switch is flicked on. A MINIMUM OF 3 BEDROOM SWITCHES MUST BE SWITCHED ON IF THE DUCTED SYSTEM IS IN OPERATION. The system is very large, so the lodge room together with a minimum of 3 bedroom switches are on if in operation. If you wish to turn the heating/cooling switch off during its programmed cycle, press the green button on the panel and it will switch off.
Summer
The summer air conditioning is set on from around mid- December. Presently the air conditioning IS ON and starts at 1pm and switches off at 8 pm. The temperature is set at 22 degrees. The electricity box is located on the pole next to the vegie garden.
EXTRA NOTES FOR AIR CONDITIONING (only if air con/heating is not on at the power pole)
The nights are between 9 – 12 degrees in December. If you require air conditioning, go to the electricity box and turn on the 3 connected switches that are labelled “air con”. The system takes around 10 minutes to fully start. If you wish to turn the system off altogether at any stage, please turn off the green light on the panel above the microwave FIRST, WAIT A MINUTE, then turn off at the electricity box . The cooling cycle is presently set to start around 2pm and shuts down at 10pm. Fans are in the Lodge room with controls located on the wall. (Please be patient when turning on) . The fans will move a little, then start.
VERANDAH HEATING
There are 3 verandah heaters. The control is in the black side console table drawer. It has P1,P2,P3 that switches on all heaters on the verandah. Point the control toward the first heater on the ceiling closes to the BBQ. Please make sure you turn the heating off when finished.
TO LIGHT THE FIREPLACE
In winter, the fireplace is set for lighting with kindling and firelighters. All that is required is a match. The Indoor fireplace MUST have the screen closed if you go out of the Lodge room or go to bed. Firewood is not supplied in summer. If you wish to have firewood, we can supply at any time, please let us know. ($50 day additional cost.)
Outdoor campfire – Follow through the gate in the front fence line of the Shearer’s front yard. Follow the path to the left and you will arrive at the creek campfire. Some cast iron pots are on the shearer’s verandah for use in the campfire. A trestle table can be taken down to the fireside area if you wish to set up for a lunch/ damper/ or dinner. Please DO NOT LIGHT the fire if it is at all windy. Otherwise perfectly fine and is safe as long as it is not turned into a huge fire. Collect your own firewood. Matches, paper and firelighters are in the Shearer’s Lodge. Wooden building, gum trees and dry grass can be a problem!
Rug up in the evening at any time of year as it is very cool on the edge of the creek. Summer time you will need insect protection.

There is a laundry located in the old shearers shower block at the rear of the Shearer’s Lodge. A washer and dryer are available. No soap powder is provided
CREEK & DAMS
There are plenty of wonderful waterhole areas to explore. The road past the shearing shed leads to several spots to access the creek. The road goes to the platypus waterhole down the hill to the furthest point you can walk or drive. (not possible to drive the full distance at the moment as it is wet). There are trout, cod, platypus and the biggest goldfish you will ever see if you cross the creek and walk towards the reeds. The track halfway between the shearing shed and the platypus hole also is great to follow with plenty of absolutely magical spots along the creek. The creek turns into a river when there has been plenty of rain. Please take care. It is a fabulous spot for kids to swim, although the water is always very cool.
THERE IS A DAM LOCATED JUST BEYOND THE FENCE LINE OF THE SHEARER’S LODGE NEAR THE CATTLE GRID. THE DAM IS DANGEROUS FOR ANYONE. FORTUNATELY, YOU CANNOT SEE THE DAM FROM YOUR ACCOMMODATION, SO CHILDREN ARE UNLIKELY TO BE TEMPTED TO VENTURE. SIGNS ARE LOCATED ON THE FENCE AND AROUND THE AREA WARNING OF THE DANGER FOR CHILDREN. THERE IS A CATTLE GRID TO CROSS AND A PEDESTRIAN GATEWAY THAT SHOULD BE CLOSED AT ALL TIMES.
PICNIC AREA
See if you can find the area with the table and seats above the creek for a lovely picnic.
GATES
When opening gates, please leave them how you found them. We have sheep on 1000 acres of land where the Shearer’s Lodge is located. Across from the Church on the other side of the road, is 3,000 acres for the cattle and cropping. You are most welcomed to explore the valley and ranges. The property runs to the top of the Waterloo Range and down the valley. The Manager of the property lives in the house across the creek from the Shearer’s Lodge. He is available at any time to help.
Other information
Information on other areas of the property is in the folder in the lodge room.
